A Constellation Of Roses - Miranda Asebedo
My rating: 5/10
Trix McCabe is a teen dealing with a rough past and a new beginning. The YA story follows Trix as she learns “right from wrong” and takes the first step towards “growth” with a magical twist. A Constellation Of Roses deals with heavy topics such as addiction, poverty, depression, self harm, and loss. Although the story is written well and flows, for me it was missing the “wow” factor. A simple teen angst story learning to choose their path with “magic” very lightly sprinkled in.
Dreams Lie Beneath-Rebecca Ross
My Rating: 8/10
This YA story follows Clementine Madigan, a young magician living in a small town. As the story progresses, Clementine finds herself wrapped up in a web of conflict and secrets. I absolutely loved this book, but I wish it was a series instead of a stand alone. Everything comes together to make sense in the final chapters, but it ended up feeling rushed to end the book. I also felt, a lot of things were left at “surface level”. I really liked the concept of the story, and just wanted more to dive into!
